  1. they themselves have to be open-minded and show acceptance and sensitivity to diversity. they can do this by genuinely engaging children to friendly interactions and it wouldnt hurt if they learn a little about different backgrounds. they should know where their students come from in order to suit their learning styles as well.

it's interesting to note also that children don't have prejudices. only adults (e.g. parents) teach them to judge others.

  2. A tremendous, responsibility, but that is true, of all students. When diversity at any age, is encouraged, it creates a more accepting and cohesive environment, so again, educators have an enormous responsibility, to foster diversity. And not just for some, but for all, and when this is the case students, more than benefit.

  3. none their useless

  4. 1. To promote the advantages of diversity to the children in their care.

    2. To provide resources which develop positive images and identities, and prevent cultural stereotyping, e.g. books, posters, jigsaws, home corner equipment, cooking, music, drama, etc.

    3. Be a positive role model and to not show prejudice to any child or adult. Children may experience prejudice for the following reasons:

    Wearing glasses

Being a new girl or boy

    Wearing different clothes

Having a different colour skin to most other children

    Having a physical handicap/disability

    Being overweight or underweight

    Having a different religion.

    4. It is your duty as a teacher to promote equality and diversity and rights for all.

    - You must not discriminate against any child, family or

group in society on the grounds of gender, racial origins, cultural or social background (including religion, language, class and family pattern), disability or sexuality.

    - You must acknowledge and address any personal beliefs or

opinions which prevent you from respecting the value systems of other people, and comply with legislation and the policies of your work setting relating to discrimination.

    - Try never to let prejudiced remarks go by without challenging them and showing your disapproval and disagreement. This is a responsibility that all persons working with children need to take seriously.

    5. Remember that we are all different - hair colour, eye colour, height, shape, type of family, etc.

    6. Promote diveristy positively to the children:

    - what makes you special? - What do you have that no one else has?

    - what things make us special?  - what can you do that no one else can do?

    7. Promote the right to play & be happy. What else do we have rights to? What responsibilities come with these rights?

  5. Great Question!  Early Childhoold professionals have a huge responsibility to the children in their class and care in regards to diversity, prejudice, cooperation and respect...Children in the younger age groups often learn from actions and attitudes they are exposed to- These often (sometimes unfortunately) include: television and media, homelife, school-life, siblings, etc.

As an early childhood professional, it is your job to teach cooperation and respect in regards to culture, religion, race, social status, etc. to the children in your care- this includes your own attitudes (including some things you might not think of such as body language and interest) and also includes actual outward demonstration of respect.

For young children, learning about others in their class and their families is a fun, important and excellent way to plant the seeds of equality in a classroom- this includes studying parts of the world, cultures, foods, animals, words/languages, etc. from various representations of children in the class!

Diversity also applies to the above concepts in areas other than race and religion such as "women/men" roles, etc...
