  1. In most public systems the average starting salary is $40,000 for a Bachelor's Degree, then it varies wildly in the ensuing years.  Each district sets their own scale.

  2. Salary scales for public schools are available by doing an Internet search for the particular county.  Within a county, they increase with a master's degree.

  3. All depends on where and what kind of school (public vs. private).  Your average public school teacher probably makes on average from about 30K to 45K starting...(although possibly much lower in some really rural southern areas).  This of course, also depends on how much education you have, how many years of experience, and what particular state/school district you work for.  Private schools tend to make MUCH less than public schools (I doubled my salary when I switched from private to public).

After you've been teaching for awhile and have advanced degrees...you can make up to about 70K...principals make a bit more...up just past 6 figures...but this is somewhat rarer.

The money isn't the greatest, but it's a decent enough living...and still the greatest job in the world!

  4. Ms Angela is correct.

To say their is a "median" salary is absurd. Some salary scales can start as low as 19000 and some as high as 35000 to start. It all depends on where you want to teach

I'd check out the state's DOE and find out what the TAX LEVY is. The higher the levy, the better the salary

    EXAMPLE

Town A's levy for schools is 2.49 per 1000 assessed value

Town B's levy for schools is 5.00 per 1000 assessed value.

The salary would be better in town B than A based on the levy. You don't know, however, how many schools are in that city. Its kinda complicated, but, that's a start

  5. I am considered a highly qualified teacher because I have a bachelor's degree, experience in the content area I teach and I've passed five Praxis (teaching) exams.

I  make $42,000 on the east coast. When I move to Texas next month, I will make $45,000 which is great because the cost of living is so much cheaper there!
