Iam trying to make carreer choises right now and maybe it s good to benefit from the experience of others since mine is too little. I would find helpful any hints about how you organise your day or what would be characteristic of a problematic/interesting/intriguing situation? My experience comes only from supervised fieldwork and books, so I would appreciate any thoughts coming from real life experience. And finally, at the end of the day, what keeps you still enthused?

  1. Coworkers.  Sometimes you'll work with great people who love kids and have tons of energy.  But there are lots of others out there.  I have worked with "preschool teachers" who: refuse to do anything that may get them dirty, refuse to sing, refuse to change diapers, talk on their cell phones a good portion of the day,  pick one or two favorite kids and ignore the rest, and tell kids it's okay to do something that is blatantly against school policies.

Do your best,  tell them what you expect, even if they have more experience than you,  and tell the boss if you need to.  If that doesn't work,  get a new job.  There are always preschools looking for good help, and some of them have great staff.

  2. Before you decide on ANY teaching career, first you should take some spelling courses. I sure as heck would'nt want you teaching my child anything!

  3. I agree co workers can be a pain if they don't have the same standards and beliefs as you.  Parents can also be a pain at times to deal with.  Always the kids put a smile on my face and keep me coming back for more......  Unconditional love is a wonderful thing.
