  1. Waa..primary school? First and foremost it is patience, dedication and motherhood. Theres no one course that can tell you how to be a good teacher.  It is just sincerety at heart which leads to dedication especially to children that you think are weak in catching up information. You will get the innermost satisfaction when you find their 'pick-up' became better in school n you could feel it was becoz of your perseverance. Be a fun loving teacher. The same principle I handled for my udergraduates.Owh and U'll get cranky parents sometimes.

  2. It depends on the state you live in, and how much college you already have. Because of No Child Left Behind, teachers have to be considered "highly qualified" to be allowed to teach. In regards to Primary School, it just means having a Bachelor's Degree. Private schools, and some charter school's don't have to follow NCLB guidelines because they're not govt funded, so if you want to teach there, then you need to find out what their requirements are. If you want to teach in a public school, the best thing you can do is check your states Dept of Ed website.  Some states have a teacher shortage and will allow anyone with a Bach to teach, then after a certain amount of time you can apply for your teaching certificate. There are also all kinds of alternate certification programs out there, that get you certified as long as you have a bachelors. The problem with all these options, is you don't get the good lessons on HOW to teach. Most might have a few week student teaching part, but not like a certification degree. My advice to you is if it's not too late, and you really want to be a teacher, enroll in a Bachelor's program that leads to certification, or if you're already in a program, change majors. If it's too late, then once you graduate you can enroll in a Masters program that leads to certification (some states require a Master's Degree after a certain number of years anyways). You'll get all the necessary tools in a degree program.

Teaching is not a glamourous job, and the pay is not great, and it's a lot of stress, and takes a lot of patience. Patience not just for the students, but for the parents as well. You really have to want to be a teacher, because if not, you will not last long. Best wishes and good luck!

Western Aust? Sorry if I sound unintelligent, but is that Australia or Austria, or neither? Either way I'm assuing you're not in the US. In which case, all the information I gave you may have been completely irrelevant. If you are in another country you should post this question on a message board that is more likely to be answered by other cizitens of that country, so they can be more help. I have no idea what the requirements are in any other country. No Child Left Behind is a US law. As for the Bachelors Degree, again, I don't know what schools in your area offer, go check out a few of the college/university websites and see what they offer to become a teacher.
