Teaching - NQT % timetable?

Hi, as a NQT what percentage of lessons should I be teaching weekly? Can someone remind me please?

  1. you should have 10% non-contact for professional development and 10% non-contact PPA.  Part of the professional development could be spent working alongside other teachers, depends on your induction plan.

  2. As an NQT you should only teach 80% of a full timetable.  Note that a full timetable denotes teaching every lesson.

    If your school has 25 lessons per week then you would only be required to teach 20 lessons. Also many schools do not count form times as lessons so they won't be taken into consideration.

    After you complete this year you would be expected to teach 21 out of 25 lessons unless you have responsibility for a teaching and learning role (normally interviewed internally for)

  3. The b******s will give you as little release time as they can get away with!

    Expect to get cover lessons in release time.
