I have a child care in my home and this summer I want to teach my kids how to play at least one song by the end of the summer. I wanted to use the color coded keyboard but I don't know how to get started...anyone have previous experience.

  1. first let them play around with it. Let them learn them selves that the low keys are to the left and the high to he right. They may not see it as high and low but the will realize the difference.

then teach them "high and low" practice with them by having them face away from the piano while you strike 2 keys and have them tell you which is highest. after they get better at it move on to closer keys or maybe 3.

dont color coat the keys, use numbers or anything - trust me , it confused me as a kid. teach them the key names. u can put tape on the keys with note names. test them by using a small section of the piano and say a note and having them strike it.

go slow. be patient and have fun.

also this depends on how smart the child is. my 2 year old cousin can almost read- he knows all his letter sounds. so maybe this wont work but i hope it does! good luck!!!

  2. Ha ha GOOD LUCK! I would stick to simple percussion instruments as the piano would seem to be a little bit too frustrating for a child that young in age. You can introduce it to them, but for now just let them bang away at the keys.
