What degrees are needed to teach preschool? Just a masters in early childhood development? Can you get this degree at Georgia Tech? If not, what is a good Georgia college to get this degree? How long does it usually take to get the degreed neccesary to teach?

  1. I teach preschool, but I am at a child development center. The qualifications are only 6 credits in early childhood.  I have my bachelors and am currently working on my master's in early childhood.  I think that you can work at head start with a bachelor's degree.  Generally a master's takes 2 years if you go full-time.  Good luck.

  2. You really need to check with your state's licensing office.  Someone here mentioned that daycare/preschool directors don't need a college degree.  That's not true in my state.  You cannot be a director of a licensed daycare or preschool unless you have at least an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field and some experience with children.

I'm not sure about colleges or universities in Georgia.  I did check out Georgia Tech's website and didn't see anything related to education - early childhood or otherwise.  Perhaps if you do a web search on Early Childhood Degrees in Georgia something willl pop up?

Regardless of whether you NEED a degree or not, the best thing you can do for yourself, your job security and the kids and families you serve is to get one!!!

  3. I work at a daycare/pre-school right now. I am in the toddler room but teachers in the pre-school and school-age rooms have no more training than I do - having lots of experience with kids.

  4. you need atleast a bachelor's degree to teach in a preschool (not a daycare preschool)

  5. While you are studying, ask if you can volunteer at a Preschool somewhere to get some hands-on experience.  That way you can decide if this is really right for you.

    Good luck!

  6. It all depends on the licensing rules in your state and the requirements of the individual schools. But basically no degree is required. Many schools just hire anyone off the street. Good quality preschools will require at least a CDA or even an associate degree in early childhood. Most directors of centers don't even have a Bachelors. In a public school preschool you will need a Bachelor degree.

You dont need a master's unless you really want to get into the field beyond being a teacher/director in a typical preschool.

Sorry, I don't know anything about Georgia Tech. I live in another state.

  7. An EC-4 degree (interdisclipinary studies) ,not a masters, a bachelors.

    4 years

You should be able to get it at any University
