Teaching Textbooks-did you like it?

Hey, all of you. Those that have used Teaching Textbooks on your kids, and those of you that used them for yourselves. Did you like it?

I am early twenties. I do not feel like I received the education that I wanted.

So, I am considering ordering Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra. .

I need a program that I can TEACH myself and that I will not end up stuck, frusterated, and no one to help me with it. I can not hire a teacher or get anyone to help me. So I need a program that 100% teaches me everything, and I can do it independently, without being worried that I will have to drop out for lack of help.

Any advice on whether teaching textbooks is for me? Or if I need to use some other program instead?

  1. My son is finishing up TT's Algebra I and LOVES it.  He self-teaches, and then goes over his problems with his dad when he gets home.  He'll continue on with their Geometry course also.

He's a very visual learner, but he seldoms needs the video lectures, as he can usually just read the script in the textbook and go from there.  It's great, though, for those who really do need the step-by-step instruction.  Also, every *single* problem in the book is worked out on the CD-roms.  That is extremely hard to find in the textbook market.

The texts are HUGE!  They are softbound and coil bound, but have lots of info in them!

  2. It's a great program!

  3. Teaching Textbooks is a great program - several of my friends swear by it.  My son, personally, prefers VideoText Interactive because of the presentation and layout, but both are excellent.  Both programs will give you a solid, concept-based understanding of upper math.

He's a very auditory learner, but gets distracted easily all the visuals in TT.  VTI also has a visual component, but it's more linear and easier for him to understand.

Honestly, I have learned so much just from watching my his lessons on VTI...I feel like I am getting the education I should have received in high school :)
