  1. I did 3rd grade my first year. Be prepared for your state's standardized tests. The average 3rd grader should know how to read. Be prepared to teach regrouping, multiplication, simple machines, simple World History, and reading. You will introduce writing papers to your students. Children can be active. But most of them haven't learned how to be grown and disrespectful to the teacher yet. Talk to your mentor and administrators for more advice.

  2. haha. hope you have a lot of energy.

  3. Third grade is an awesome grade level. The students should be able to read chapter books, and will need help with comprehension, main idea. Practice with them on not just getting the right answer, but how to prove it. They will need to show or understand why their answer is correct and the other choices are wrong. So start early with multiple choice questions, and teach them the skills to eliminate and prove their answers.  It might seem like a lot of work, but if you can start doing this in the fall, you'll save yourself a lot of stress come spring time (Testing time). Relax and have fun....you're in for a bumpy ride.

  4. be nice to them i bet they will be nice to you! :)

  5. Congrats! I've just decided to go back to school to get my teaching credentials.

Talk to the professor that you did student teaching with,... they will probably be glad to help you out.

  6. If there are other 3rd grade teachers in your school, I'd get together with them and ask them for all of the advice they are willing to give you.

If you can get to meet them BEFORE you have to go back to work, then do it.

Each grade has a list of things they need to have learned before they graduate to the next grade.

Just follow that list and you'll be fine.

Make good friends with the other 3rd grade teachers and your job will be much better than if you try to do it all yourself.

    Here's some good advice:

    1. Make sure you eat good food every day.

    2. Get plenty of sleep each night.

    3. Get an adult to talk to about your feelings so things don't get all bottled up on you.

    4. Learn about classroom management by asking your peers how they keep order.

    5. Have a lesson plan book and stay organized.

    6. Consider the Principal your mentor and not your enemy.

    7. When dealing with parents, listen to what they have to say before you try to make them understand your point of view.

    8. Don't give any child a bad grade on their report card without letting their parents know WELL IN ADVANCE that their child is in danger of getting a bad grade on their report card if he/she doesn't improve. Keep a paper trail of grades and behavior issues.
