He is really interested in computers and singing. His parents want to expand that to piano so maybe there is some fun software that can teach him the notes and where they are on the staff. He does really well encouraging sounds and applauses.

  1. My parents tried to get me into piano. I would practice for 15 seconds a day, that was it. You can't force these AS kids to do everything you want like you can an NT kid. They don't always fall into line and do what you expect.

A wind instrument would be a good instrument for a kid to learn, but better to wait until later around 11 to start, and preferably brass.

Most AS kids don't have the hand-eye coordination to play something like a clarinet with 10 or so keys or a flute, or sax, or a piano with even more keys. And I always had trouble reading the notes. But with brass instruments, especially baritone, I was very accurate on the notes. But when you have three keys to worry about and maybe a 2 octave range at the most it is not all that challenging once you get used to it. But for an AS kid, I would definitely recommend a brass instrument. Trumpet, baritone, tuba, anything like that would be real good to suit the needs an Aspie has.
