  1. my step dad just put one training wheel on and then took it off after a couple weeks. i liked that.. still unsteady, but dont fall over

hold on to him and when you think he is ready, let go!

  2. Oh, for crying out loud -- he's a boy... it's a bike... let them roll!  What's with "stabilizers"?  Gee, I'd like a "stabilizer" to make me feel more confident in my job....

  3. prob both but id say h**l end up with quite a few bruises without lol but h**l be fine

  4. I am a step mother of 2 and we where teaching the little girl how to ride a bike about 2 weeks ago. She never had stabiliser and within 2 hrs was riding it. what we did was we told her to peddle and stear and if you just hold the seat and follow her around then when you feel they have enough confidence just let go of the seat and they will be so happy with themsleves when you tell them they did it on there own and will keep going.

    hope this helps

  5. What worked with me was riding a my scooter everyday for 2 hours for 2 weeks. Then I tried the bike one morning ( on the sidewalk, not the grass ) and then I just didn't feel the need to evacuate the bike! I learned. Then shortly after I crashed into the neighbor's trash can.

  6. Your sons 6 so will most likely be easy to train. See what hes like without stabilisers first, if hes no good look around for some universal stabilisers and try him with them until hes accustom to it. I had my stabilisers off my bike on my 3rd birthday.

  7. my son never used training wheels on his bike and he learned just fine.  By the time he started to ride both of his sisters knew how and he wanted to be a big kid like them.  If your son wants to learn then he will and some kids will learn fast and others it will take awhile for them to get the hang of it.  Just keep practicing and before you know it he will be doing it on his own.

  8. I have a five year old that I am training right now.  I would say that training wheels have set him back.  Don't use them unless you really have to.  I am holding the bike and running with him & letting go when he has it, but he does wreck a lot!  We are learning on the grass to avoid major scrapes and crying...lol.  Good luck to you.

  9. When i was young my dad (and this is no word of a lie) attached a big stick to the back of my bike and held on whilst I was peddling away I being only 5 thought he was still holding on lol but alas he had let go ages ago, its all in the mind and having confidence, stabilisers are the way I taught my son, taking one off at a time, now he;s a pro!!

  10. If he is doing well enough without them then I wouldn't bother putting them on his bike, like you said he is already doing well without them.  Some children need them on their bikes and others don't.

My son has a balance problem and we found out it is a problem in his ears it wasn't anything else so the doctor gave him some medicine for his ears and he is riding his bike just fine now without the stabilizers on it and has been for a year now.
