Teaching a group of second graders to golf....?

for a fun outdoor activity I am going to bring my golf clubs to work and give my kids some golf lessons (dont worry, I got the foam practice balls) any tips on how to keep it safe, organized, educational and fun??????

  1. Don't bring your entire set.  You really don't want those kids swinging woods or long clubs.  I would suggest you just bring your wedges (pitching and sand) and your putter, may be your 9 iron if you need more clubs.

    Things to watch out for:  Make sure no kids are swinging the club WITHOUT you watching and other kids are at a safe distance BEHIND the child swinging (meaning looking at his back).  A golf club go flying loose can cause quite a bit of damage to a child, even if it didn't hit the head.

    Soft foam balls are great.  You can put up a net in front of the kid and tie couple targets on the net, give prizes for hitting a target...putting contests are always fun too.

    Don't expect too much from them, make it easy to win or get recognized cuz it is quite difficult to a child to swing an adult golf club, let alone trying to hit the ball and make it fly.

  3. I would see start to teach them the basic/fundamentals of the game.  You can do that by teaching them how to chip and have a contest of closest to pin/target for a prize.
