A friend of mine and myself were discussing new careers for me since I am now a mom i longer want to work the 7am-7pm career anymore. He mentioned to me that as long as I have a degree and pass the teaching exam i am able to become a teacher without further schooling is this true?

  1. Hey,

What your friend said is pretty much true. It depends on the level of schooling you wish to teach, i.e. Elementary, Highschool or College. Public Schools in NJ (whether Elementary or Highschool) require teachers to be certified and have college degrees. Private Schools (Catholic) will allow teachers who are in the process of taking the Praxis Certification Test to teach Elementary, but Private Highschools require the certification and degree prior to obtaining a position.

College professors, both Public and Private, requires a minimum of a Master's Degree, and most preferably a terminal degree, such as PhD, EdD etc.

  2. You need a BA in Education first.

You need to take student-teaching in your junior/senior year and then take the NTE.

    Go for it...
