My son is in Kindergarden and he knows how to write basic 3 and 4 letter words. The problem is that I can seem to teach him how to space the words. Is there any techniques out theres to teach him this?

  1. Im in UK - schools here still teach 'finger spacing' between words - usually using the index finger.

  2. When I was in Kindergarten and 1st grade we leanred to space words by using our thumb or our index and middle finger. After the end of the word. That made sure there was a space between it and the next word. Worked wonders.

  3. You could try having him lay down a pencil behind the word to space it out before starting a new word

  4. What I used was the finger rule.  Write a word then put is finger right after the word.  Thats how far apart the words should be.

  5. I've taught my students the finger rule and also gave them special spacers - which were really just tongue depressors that they colored with markers. :)

  6. You get them to put their "pointy" finger between the last word and the next word.  Call it a finger space.  Then they will space it properly.  What a fun stage.
