  1. I've been playing for about 7 years and I suggest you learn the chromatic scale.  It's hard for me personally to learn to play sax well.  With a piano, if you know theory, it doesnt matter where you start, as long as you know where you should go.  But since i wasnt never taught theory on my sax, i didnt mentally connect the notes in sequence like how I did for piano.  Catch my drift?

Learn how to play all the notes chromatically before you learn the names of them.  You'll probably just figure it out as you go, but it's a big help.

  2. like the first one said, learn your chromatic scale. Then learn note lengths (quarter notes, half note, etc.) Then test out different rhythms. Since you have the essential elements book, try those rhythms; they help a lot. Also, if you can find "Winning Rhythms" or "101 rhythms for ..."

  3. i switched from clarinet to alto sax... once you have the embouchure and fingering figured out it's really easy.. i quickly became first alto sax in my band.

  4. first of all, cheers to the alto saxs player.  and if you have any questions about fingerings or notes, just ask.

second of all, a good website to go to is www.saxontheweb.net    then click beginner corner.  and for tips, the first finger is B, the second and the first is A, and the first, second and third is G.  and the middle one alone is C  just for some basic notes. and if you want me tosay more, just add it.  hope i helped!  here are some websites for you.  to copy it onto your address bar just highlite the website i posted by pressing control and C.  then place it on the adress bar by press control and V.

  5. Get the Rubank method books (the ones with the blue covers) and if you can find a copy try "Foundation to saxophone playing" by Ben Vereecken.
