I work with him at a facility for mental retardation , although , I don't think given the opportunity to learn as a child he'd be considered MR today . I do not know sign language myself , I am learning with him . He lives in a silent world , and he would so badly like to be able to communicate with people ( I can see as to how he tries to talk an cannot) He can only sight read . So if I were to write him a note saying "Do you want to go to the park for lunch today ?" the only words he'd understand are : Go Park Lunch and Today .. Therefore he would make his lunch and go to the park (by himself , because he thinks you are telling him to do so ) I'd like to teach him the meaning of "want" that way he can tell us what he wants . Anyways , any help would be nice , thank you
