Teaforthree aiming for the Coral Welsh National
After taking the runner-up’s honours thrice on the Boxing Day, trainer, Rebecca Curtis, is securing her chances in the Coral Welsh National for the upcoming weekend at Chepstow. The betting arena is frenzied due to the race with the Paul Nicholls’ trained, Michel Le Bon, and Curtis conditioned, Teaforthree, leading the market. The bars for the two are hiking despite the uncertain weather and ground conditions.
Good half of the track is already water logged and without any confirm news from the weather forecast department, there are heavy doubts about the meeting.
Clerk of the course Keith Ottesen told the Racing Post on Sunday: "We have had showers on and off all afternoon today and there is rain tomorrow morning, but then the forecast is dry from New Year's Day.
"If that's the case and we are dry from Tuesday through to Saturday morning then the Welsh National will be on."
The eight-year-old bay gelding, Teaforthree, is supported by 7 to 2 odds by the famous betting exchanges, bet365, Boylesports and of course the official sponsor of the race itself, Coral.
"It would be wonderful if we could secure a Welsh victory in the country's biggest race," Curtis said.
Oscar’s Irish bay gelding opened the current season with an eighth position in the Grade 3 Henrietta Knight Handicap Chase on 17th November, 2012 at Cheltenham race course over three miles and 3 ½ furlongs.
The race was won by, Monbeg Dude.
The eight-year-old out of, Ethel’s Bay, progressed by the second outing of the season. He ended sixth in the field of nineteen in the Grade 3 Hennessy Gold Cup Chase on 1st December, 2012 at Newbury race course over three miles and 2 ½ furlongs.
The title was taken away by the Nicky Henderson trained, Bobs Worth, who was entered as the favourite entry and was followed by the Paul Nicholls’ hopeful, Tidal Bay.
The Rebecca Curtis trained was the favourite winner at Cheltenham in the Diamond Jubilee National Hunt Chase on 14th March, 2012 over four miles.
He was unbeaten in the final two races of the previous season and seemed to be promising in his most recent outing. How far will the betting odds support him on the track over the weekend will reveal soon.
