Team Aqua nudges No Way Back down under strong winds on Day 4 of 2011 RC44 Sweden Cup
Great Britain’s Team Aqua grabbed the overall lead of 2011 RC44 Sweden Cup after nudging down the previous scoreboard leaders, Netherlands’ No Way Back. The Britons are now leading the standings with 31 points after six races
at the end of Day 4 on Marstrand waters. France’s Aleph Sailing Team, who were second placed on Day 3, are also replaced by Team Ceeref of Slovenia.
The weather conditions were quite strong at the start of the day. The wind was blowing up to 30 knots over the racing area in Marstrand along with some six-meter swells which kept the sailors waiting at the dock. However, the
race committee repositioned the race course after the wind came down at Marstrand Island.
The third day’s leaders, No Way Back, couldn’t manage to retain their lead over the standings and tumbled down at 14th spot in the very first race while Team Aqua clinched a second place to reach the top. However,
No Way Back clinched the second race of the day but this victory couldn’t take them to first place and Team Aqua remained number one after taking a fourth position in Race 2.
While speaking to the local media after the races, Team Aqua’s Chris Bake said, “The sailing here is still pretty hard. It was pretty lumpy today and clearly if No Way Back didn’t have that early start, they would be right at
the top of the leader board, it’s still incredibly tight and incredibly tricky.”
