Team BMC announced its final roster for the Tour de France 2012
Team BMC announced its final squad of nine men for the most prestigious cycling event of the season, the Tour de France.
The team will be led by the former Tour de France winner, Cadel Evans who is positive to bag his second consecutive overall win at the race.
Evans holds as many as 12 Grand Tour appearances under his belt including two Giro d’Italia, seven Tour de France and three Vuelta a Espana representations throughout his career.
He has managed to find podium at the Tour de France on three different occasions including second overall positions during the 2007 and the 2008 editions of the race, along with a first place finish in a most recent version of the Tour.
Sports Director John Lelangue briefed that the team’s main goal is to defend Cadel’s title and help him secure the top podium position in Paris.
“Everyone will know clearly what their job is during the three weeks of racing. Our roster has a really good balance, especially considering the parcours," Lelangue noted.
Team BMC President Jim Ochowicz echoed the thoughts of his Sports Director and is confident on the selection made for the race.
"We have a number of qualified athletes, all of whom who could have been a great addition to this team," Ochowicz said.
"We're looking forward to a challenging race, but one that we're prepared to take on”.
“What we got out of last year's Tour was that we did a lot of things right and not too many things wrong. We'd like to repeat that this time around," he concluded.
Evans gained confidence with an overall victory at the Criterium International along with a point’s classification and a stage 2 win at the race.
The cyclist also occupied the third overall position at the Criterium du Dauphine and also bagged the point’s classifications and an overall victory during the first stage of the race.
