Team BMC hires Steve Cummings for 2012 – Cycling News
With most of the riders already signed for the new teams it has been revealed that the first runner up at the Tour of Britain 2011, Steve Cummings will ride for BMC in 2012. Team BMC is recruiting riders for the next season and Cummings is the seventh cyclist
that has joined the BMC squad so far.
The British rider started his career with the professional team Landbouwkrediet-Colnago as he stayed with them for 2005 and 2006. He then moved to Discovery Channel team in 2007 and left them after a year as he signed with the South African team Barloworld.
Team Barloworld announced their demise by the end of 2009 and Cummings had no option but to move as he joined Team Sky in 2010. He had a quiet start with the team but his performance began to improve gradually as he won the third stage of Volta ao Algarve
2011. Steve was at second position during the British National Time Trials Champion 2011 as Alex Dowsett won the event.
The 30-year-old is looking forward to his future with team BMC as he said, “I want to work as hard as possible for the team and make the most of any opportunities that come my way.” BMC manager Jim Ochowicz mentioned that Cummings time trial skills will
surely help the team and that he is also an accomplished climber. He said, “Steve is an accomplished time triallist – both in the individual and the team version – in addition to being a good climber."
Cummings’ compatriot Lodewyck has already joined the team last month along with Thor Hushovd, Marco Pinotti and Philippe Gilbert. Team BMC has not disclosed the length of the contract signed with the rider but he will be representing the US based team in
2012.
Steve believes that team BMC has signed the best cyclists in the sport and riding with them will be the best moment of his career. He also mentioned that team BMC has won the Tour de France 2011 and is capable of winning any event with all the best cyclists
in their team.
