Team BMC in search of a victory at the Milan-San Remo
Team BMC is one of the most expensive teams of the 2012 season. Despite its high profile squad, the team has struggled to perform in the season yet.
It is currently holding the seventh overall spot after the 2012 UCI World Tour team’s rankings.
Team Sky Procycling is leading the rankings with Movistar Team and Team RadioShack-Nissan at the second and the third positions in the respective order.
The team is now looking ahead at the fourth Grand Tour race of the season, Milan-San Remo and is content to send a powerful squad at the Italian race.
Thor Hushovd, Philippe Gilbert and Alessandro Ballan are the top three cyclists that will ensure the team’s success at the 2012 edition of the Milan-San Remo.
Former World Champion Thor Hushovd believes that he has strong chances to help the team with the victory if he can deliver on the day.
He told Procycling.no, “It's still me who has the best sprint of us four, and I expect to go for my chance”.
The Norwegian has still not gathered his first victory of the new season and the Italian race is the best opportunity for him to receive the honours.
He started the professional campaign with Team Credit Agricole in 2000 and spent a period of three years with the side.
Thor also rode for Cervelo Test Team (2009-2010), Team Garmin-Cervelo (2011) before accepting an offer from the American side, Team BMC for the 2012 season.
The 34-year-old bagged a number of victories in the past season. He secured three stages during the Tour de France 2011 including the second, the thirteenth and the sixteenth stage of the race.
Hushovd also grabbed a stage each at the Tour de Suisse and the Tour of Britain and is now eyeing the Milan-San Remo as the first big goal of his 2012 season.
He voiced, “I have shown so many times that I can get over it now, so it's more a question of what one does at the end and what tactics you choose ahead of the finals”.
“For my part, I have nothing to say about whether Gilbert will compete or not. We'll probably be able to make a powerful team, anyway,” Hushovd concluded.
The 103rd edition of the Milan-San Remo is scheduled in March 17th and all the major cycling teams have already announced their final squads for the contest.
