Team BMC putting their faith in the Tour de France 2011 Team – Cycling News
Team BMC has renewed the contracts for seven of their players as the team is comfortable to take on the next seasons with their existing riders. Team’s performance in the Tour de France 2011 was exceptional as the Australian Cadel Evans sealed the victory
at the mega event.
Cadel Evans finished at 56th position on the final stage with his team-mates Marcus Burghardt, George Hincapie, Michael Schar, Brent Bookwalter and Steve Morabito finishing the final stage of the race one after the other.
Team BMC finished the Tour de France 2011 at 14th position after the final general classifications and is currently securing second place with 874 points as per UCI World Tour Standings after the Eneco Tour.
Five BMC cyclists from the Tour de France have signed the contracts with the team including Brent Bookwalter, Steve Morabito, Marcus Burghardt, Michael Schar and Manuel Quinziato.
Team President and general manager Jim Ochowicz commented on the inclusion of the cyclists as he mentioned that they have shown some really impressive performances during the last year and team is hopeful that they will show their strengths at coming events.
Jim said, “These riders performed brilliantly throughout the 2011 season and played a major role in Cadel's victory at this year's Tour de France," he further added, "We look forward to their continued dedication and performance within the BMC Racing Team
family."
Martin Kohler who is the Swiss time trial champion and Mathias Frank who has won the bronze medal in the same championship will continue with team BMC for the coming season as Ochowicz mentioned about the cyclists, “They have both played a key role in the
team’s successes. As young riders, they continue to show improvement each year in their physical abilities.”
Team has already announced that the Tour de France 2011 winner Cadel Evans will continue with the team for three more years along with Thor Hushovd who has signed with BMC for the 2012 season.
Thor Hushovd is the World Champion and his involvement in team has raised concern as Cadel Evans does not want to share the team’s leadership and during his 2011 Tour de France winning celebrations in Melbourne Cadel mentioned that he needs the full team
support to defend the Tour in 2012.
