Team BMC signs Allan Peiper as a Performance Director
Allan Peiper is considered as one of the best Managers in professional cyclist and with his vast experience and an eye for detail, he has really lifted several teams in the past.
Managing Team BMC will be his new role after he decided to leave his current side, Team Garmin-Sharp by the end of this month.
The 52-year rode as a professional cyclist through 1983 to 1992 and represented as many as five different teams in almost a decade of his professional life as a rider.
He took the first Managerial job with Team Davitamon-Lotto in 2005 and served the team for a period of two years.
The Australian took over Team Columbia-High Road responsibilities through 2007-11 and joined Team Garmin-Sharp at the start of 2012 season.
He has decided to pledge the remaining part of the season with the American team and managing the training camps and altitude trainings will be his core responsibilities.
"Teams have gotten so big in the last few years – with nearly 30 riders, a lot of staff, and many races on many continents," Peiper said.
"Getting things like wind tunnel testing, training camps, data analysis and feedback to riders and coaches to make sure everyone is on the same page is a big job”.
“I think that will be the big challenge for me in the first year".
"I'm familiar with a few of the guys. I feel I can really enhance the work of the entire team, which will give the riders a more coordinated service".
The former Australian road cyclist has previously worked with Cadel Evans in the past during his stay with Team Davitamon-Lotto through 2006-07.
Current Team BMC riders, Marco Pinotti and Tejay Van Garderen have also worked under Peiper with the American outfit, Team HTC-Highroad.
Team BMC Sports Director, John Lelangue cited that Peiper’s inclusion will definitely help the team and he will work as a connection between the cyclists and the management staff.
The American outfit currently holds the seventh overall position after the UCI World Tour Teams rankings with as many as 917 points to its credit.
Team Sky is leading the category with Team Katusha, Team Liquigas-Cannondale, Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step, Team Movistar and Team Orica-GreenEdge securing the next five positions in the respective order.
