Team Catalunya Caixa Repsol rider Marc Marquez unsure about 2012 premier class debut – MotoGP news
Catalunya Caixa Repsol rider Marc Marquez is unsure about making a step up into the MotoGP class for the 2012 season.
The Spanish Moto2 rider is leading the championship and has a chance to secure a seat in the MotoGP team.
Marc Marquez shared his views during the Japanese event and said, “Next year we will see but I think at the moment Moto2 is my place.”
However, he has yet not decided to take a chance for the premier class. Currently, he is riding well in the season with seven wins. The Spanish rider took the lead of the championship as he finished second on the podium in the last event held at Japan.
With his successful finish at Motegi and taking the lead in championship, it was also rumoured that the Spanish rider wants to make progress in the MotoGP class.
On the other side, HRC also supported the speculation that Marquez’s management has contacted the Japanese factory to reserve a seat for him in the team. The base of his shift up depends upon if he wins the Moto2 title for 2011.
Catalunya Caixa Repsol team boss, Emilio Alzamora talked to Motorcyclenews.com and said, “All is possible but of course there is a lot of interest in the factories for Marc. Honda for the future has a big interest in Marc and I don’t know if that is for
next season or not. Yamaha also would like to have a future with Marc, so nothing is decided.”
The team boss for Marquez also added that some other companies including Yamaha are also interested in seating him in the team. Still it is not a problem to continue in the Moto2 class as he is running successfully.
The Spanish rider is young and can fight for a long time, so if he moves to MotoGP it should be under suitable terms and conditions. The preferred idea is to take a place in the factory team with a strong crew.
Sponsor of Marquez team Repsol has also reportedly asked HRC to maintain a seat for the young Spanish rider in the factory team.
