Team Chipotle to reappear as Chipotle-First Solar Team in the 2012 season
The main sponsor behind Team Garmin-Barracuda, Slipstream Sports, has announced a new sponsor and a new name for their development team. Team Chipotle will now be known as Team Chipotle-First Solar for the season ahead.
The new squad is all set to kick off the coming season at the Valley of the Sun race, in February.
The event is scheduled in Phoenix, Arizona, and a total number of 15 cyclists have already been shortlisted to represent the new team.
Evan Hyde, Andrei Krasilnikau, Adam Leibovitz, Michael Midlarsky, Lachlan Morton, Anders Newburry, Alister Ratclif, Tom Scully, Robbie Squire, Danny Summerhill, Steele Van Hoff, Josh Berry, Rob Bush, Robin Carpenter and Andz Flaxsis will represent the team
for the coming season.
First Solar’s Vice President for Global Corporate Communications, Ted Meyer briefed that he is looking ahead to a promising new season with the side.
He said, “Our sponsorship of the Chipotle-First Solar team is part of our broader commitment to a cleaner, healthier environment. Cycling is a sport with global appeal that promotes hard work, competition and excellence, values we share”.
Slipstream Sports also announced the demise of its Garmin Cervelo women’s squad last week.
The firm, however, insisted that it will collaborate with AA Drink/Leontien.nl to ensure that the women squad survives the elimination from the sport.
The development team is looked after by Chann McRae who is a former professional cyclist. He was overwhelmed to see a number of his teammates making their way in the professional team, Garmin-Barracuda.
He stated, “The Chipotle-First Solar boys are set for an exciting year. We’re proud to have a roster featuring some of the finest U23 talent in the world. Our sprinters are eager to get it on in the closing kilometers, and the climbers are excited for high
mountain selections”.
Chann briefed that the Team started its season with a training camp in Wimberley, Texas.
The team’s main target is the World Championships in Limburg, Netherlands, scheduled on September 23rd, 2012.
The team is looking ahead for a positive start to its 2012 season and will ride all the UCI 2.1 and 2.2 events.
The main reason behind the formation of the test team is to groom the riders to ensure they are ready for the World Tour level.
