Team Christina Watches-Onfone’s applications gets approved by the Danish Cycling Federation
Team Christina Watches-Onfone has received the green signal from the Danish Cycling Federation, in response to its application for a Continental licence.
As many as seven Danish teams applied for the licence and it appears as if Claus Hembo’s team will not have to wait much in achieving its first goal after the Dutch authorities asked the team to submit additional financial information.
Hembo has already stated that he will dissolve the team in Denmark and will seek the licence in another country if the Danish Cycling Federation denies his request this time.
“There was an opportunity to move abroad, but it was definitely only a stopgap measure because we believe that we are a Danish team”.
“But if opportunities had been that we could either close the team or move it, we would have been forced to move abroad”.
The team management will now send an application of the team build around Michael Rasmussen, who won the Tour de France 2005-06 climbers jersey.
Jasper Worre of DCU told sporten.dk that a total number of seven sides, including Team Christina Watches-Onfone sent an application on Wednesday which has been forwarded to UCI for further perusal.
Team Owner Claus Hembo stated that his side is much stronger than many other top level teams and even went to an extent of comparing his side with the 15-year World Tour side, Team Saxo-Tinkoff.
Hembo stated that his team’s economical condition is much better than Bjarne Riis’ team and is definitely one of the best teams in Denmark.
“Even compared to Bjarne Riis, we are still the economically strongest team in Denmark.” he noted.
Understanding the DCU concern “that a team doesn't break down in the middle of the season, and I can easily under that they have this requirement. But I do not believe that there has even been any doubt about our economy,” he noted.
Danish Cycling Federation has approved the Continental licence applications for a total number of seven teams and it is upto UCI, if picks Team Christina Watches-Onfone or not.
The final list of Danish teams seeking the Continental licence include Team Tre-For, Team Designa Køkken-Knudsgaard, Team J. Jensen-Ramirent, Team Concordia Forsikring-Riwal, Christina Watches-Onfone, Team Cult Energy and Blue Water Cycling.
