Team Colombia-Coldeportes optimistic for the Tirreno-Adriatico 2012
Jarlinson Pantano of Team Colombia-Coldeportes helped the side with his 12th overall position at the Strade Bianche.
The team is now looking ahead to ride the Tirreno-Adriatico with Jarlinson as its main man. Jarlinson was impressive during the 190 kilometre chase between Gaiole and Siena.
Fabian Cancellara of Team RadioShack-Nissan succeeded at the Strade Bianche. He finished the race in the quickest time of 4 hours, 44 minutes and 59 seconds.
Maxim Iglinsky and Oscar Gatto secured the second and the third spots with some brilliant efforts by Alessandro Ballan, Greg Van Avermaet and Roman Kreuziger.
Jarlinson Pantano finished almost four minutes behind the race leader and was the top cyclist for the professional continental team.
The Colombian team was launched this year and has been invited at the Tirreno-Adriatico, the Milano-Sanremo and the Giro di Lombardia for the 2012 season.
Team Manager Claudio Corti is optimistic that the side will take its performance to the next level in the coming event.
Team Manager Claudio Corti, Sports Directors Valerio Tebaldi and Oscar Pellicioli have announced the final team of eight men to ride the Tirreno-Adriatico 2012.
Claudio Corti noted, "We know we are facing a very tough race, with so many strong and qualified opponents, but we are determined to show off and deserve our invitation to this very important and prestigious race".
"We are climbers," he continued. "We’ll be aggressive and trying to be protagonists every other day – just like we did at Saturday’s ‘Strade Bianche’. We showed there we have the grit and determination required".
Corti mentioned that the team’s main focus will be the uphill finishes of the Chieti’s and Prati di Tivo’s.
He is happy with the selected side and is confident that the team will not let him down during the third UCI World Tour event in March 2012.
Team Colombia-Coldeportes will ride the Italian race with a 100% Colombian squad.
The total number of eight men to represent the side are: Darwin Atapuma, Robinson Chalapud, Esteban Chaves, Fabio Duarte, Felipe Laverde, Wilson Marentes, Jarlinson Pantano and Victor Hugo Peña.
The 47th edition of the Tirreno-Adriatico is schedule from March 7-13 and 22 best teams will fight for the top position during the seven-stage race.
