Team GAC Pindar’s Ian Williams ready to sail in 2011 Monsoon Cup: 2011 World Match Racing Tour
Currently leading the World Match Racing Tour standings, Team CAG Pindar’s British skipper, Ian Williams, is preparing to take part in the upcoming ultimate regatta of 2011 World Match Racing Tour. Leaning on his past experience, Williams is looking forward
to keep a cool head as the series heads to Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia, for the Championship decider, the 2011 Monsoon Cup, starting from November 22.
Great Britain’s Ian Williams, skipper helm of Team GAC Pindar, catapulted to the top of the Tour standings after the mid-season finished, but a recent run of comparative poor performances in previous events of St Moritz Match Race and the Argo Group Gold
Cup has crippled him a bit. Both these events were won by Australia’s Torvar Mirsky, skipper of The Wave Muscat.
However, the Briton is not disheartened with his poor performance in the last two events and is hopeful to give his best in the deciding event in Malaysia, as he believes his experience will only serve to help him during the worst of his times in his career.
While speaking to local media, the Brit said, “Looking back over the past years it’s always come down to the Monsoon Cup and has often been just three teams vying for the championship title. It’s also usually the team that wins the Monsoon Cup that wins
the title so while there really is all to play for it’s not an unexpected position to be in.”
Skipper Team GAC Pindar added, “We are definitely confident heading into the Monsoon Cup. We’ve been in this position before and it’s gone well for us in the past. We’re going to Perth before Malaysia to get some practice in and then will hopefully get another
3-5 days in Kuala Terengganu before the event.”
The 2011 Monsoon Cup is scheduled to take place from November 22-27 in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia, and it will decide the winner of 2011 ISAF Match Racing World Championship. Currently, Williams is holding the top podium spot with 106 points, while Bruni
Racing’s Francesco Bruni is on second place with 100 points followed by Australian, Torvar Mirsky on third position with 99.8 points.
