Team Garmin-Barracuda wins the team’s time trial stage 4 of the Giro d’ Italia 2012
Team Garmin-Barracuda repeated its four year old performance after securing the team’s trial stage of the Giro d’ Italia.
The American side rode as a unit and claimed yet another victory at the fourth stage of the race.
It managed to complete the 32.2 kilometre stage 4 of the Giro d’ Italia in a fastest time of 37 minutes and 4 seconds and occupied the top spot.
Team Katusha finished 5 seconds behind at the second position with Team Astana, Team Saxo Bank, Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step, Team Orica-GreenEdge and Liquigas-Cannondale occupying the next five spots.
Team’s collective performance has earned Ramunas Navardauskas the pink jersey as the Lithuanian is now leading the stage 4 classifications.
Ramunas noted that he was certain of the team’s win but was not too sure about his form.
He appreciated his side’s effort and briefed after crossing the finish line, "They were really strong today. Everybody did a good job”.
“I was so glad to stay with these guys as I tired in the last 10 kilometres. This jersey is a really big thing for me".
"I like this team. They have taken care of me last year and this year and brought me to good races. I did the Tour de France last year, I didn't expect [Jonathan] Vaughters to bring me”.
“This year I'm at the Giro, and it's been a really good start for me up to now, although we'll see how it is tomorrow".
Ramunas has now built a good ten second lead over the second spot holder, Robert Hunter and Ryder Hesjedal.
Taylor Phinney was leading the stage 3 classifications but the massive crash by the end of the third stage restricted him from continuing his superb form.
He has now dropped to the fifth overall spot with a total deficit of 13 seconds on the new race leader Ramunas.
Team Garmin-Barracuda has jumped up to the top spot at the team’s classifications with Team BMC and Team Orica-GreenEdge holding the second and the third spots.
Team RadioShack-Nissan, Team Sky, Team Vacansoleil-DCM, Team Omega Pharma and Team Astana holding the next five spots.
