Team Garmin-Sharp signs Steele Von Hoff for two-years
Steele Von Hoff’s performance in the past few months as a stagiaire has earned him a permanent spot in the American squad, Team Garmin-Sharp.
The team has signed the young Australian for a period of two-years and he will now be marking his World Tour debut in the season ahead.
The cyclist started riding professionally with the UCI Continental cycling team in 2011 and joined Team Chipotle-First Solar Development side in 2012.
He won the stage five of the Tour de Loir-et-Cher, stage 6 at the Olympia’s Tour and stages 2a & 9 during the Tour de Guadeloupe 2012.
He was soon given a chance to prove his abilities at the top most level of the sport during the second half of the 2012 season in the American squad and Hoff was quick enough to seize the opportunity.
The 24-year-old was delighted on securing the first-ever World Tour contract of his professional career and hopes to do justice with his talent in the season ahead.
“It has been my dream ever since I started riding to race at the top level in the sport and Garmin-Sharp is the perfect fit for my racing goals and moral beliefs,” said Von Hoff.
“They are going to work with me to help me achieve the best results I can over a long-term period, and have my best interests in mind while trying to achieve those results”.
“Their commitment to clean cycling is something very important to me. I have a lot of respect for the team and think I will learn a lot from the riders on board”.
Team Garmin-Sharp has re-signed Daniel Martin and Thomas Dekker while Rohan Dennis has joined in from Team Jayco-AIS.
Murilo Fischer, Christophe Le Mevel and Heinrich Haussler have left the team and will be seen with their new sides in the season ahead.
Team Garmin-Sharp had a good 2012 season and managed to claim the ninth overall position with a total number of 762 UCI points to its credit.
Ryder Hesjedal (241 points), Daniel Martin (196 points), Andrew Talansky (145), Heinrich Haussler (70 points) and Le Mevel (40 points) made the maximum contribution.
