Team Great Britain with a good start at the 2012 Track World Championships in Australia
Team Great Britain made their appearance at the 2012 Track World Championships in Australia with a tremendous start.
The team filled its bag with a gold medal after a solid performance, which also earned them a new world record for the men’s pursuit team.
However, two of the most experienced British cyclists Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton struggled to find their winning ways.
Hoy was happy with his team’s performance and also noted that the only bad performance on the day came through the debutant Philip Hindes.
He told BBC Sport, "We looked at the video and we've got nothing to argue about, it was a very small mistake by Phil".
Chris Hoy, Philip Hindes and Jason Kenny rode for bronze medal but the trio was left frustrated after the young British cyclist made an illegal move.
Chris supported the 19-year-old youngster and mentioned that Philip will learn with experience and it is an ideal opportunity for him to gain confidence for the coming days.
Hoy briefed, "He's disappointed but he shouldn't feel the responsibility - experienced teams like the Germans have been relegated as well".
“It shouldn't happen but we've won and lost championships by thousandths of a second. If you get it slightly wrong then you're out and that's what happened tonight,” he concluded.
Chris noted that, it is the first time during his 16 year long career that his team has been disqualified from an event.
"This will all be forgotten if it goes well in London, but this is still a world championships and it would've been nice to at least challenge for the podium in the second ride," he briefed.
Varnish and Pendleton overcame the tough Australian squad in the qualifying round but had to bow before the Chinese cyclists for the bronze medal.
Team Germany made things even difficult for Pendleton and Varnish as they grabbed the Gold after beating their world record.
Pendleton admired the performances of the German pair, Miriam Welte and Kristina Vogel and voiced that the two justified their performance after their outstanding performance.
The British duo had to settle for the fourth position and is now determined to test their legs during the 2012 Olympic Games.
