Team Great Britain’s cycling medal count at the 2012 Olympic Games Part 2
Alexander Vinokourov of Team Kazakhstan wins the Men’s road race event with Rigoberto Uran and Alexander Kristoff at the second and the third positions respectively.
Dutch cyclist Marianne Vos managed to maintain her dominance at the Women’s road race with Lizzie Armitstead of Great Britain and Olga Zabelinskaya of Team Russia holding the second and the third spot.
Kirstin Armstrong (United States of America), Judith Arndt (Germany) and Olga Zabelinskaya (Russia) were the top three names after the women’s time trial event.
The British cyclists grabbed a maximum number of seven gold medals at track cycling with Jason Kenny, Philip Hinder, Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton, Ed Clancy, Geraint Thomas, Steven Burke, Peter Kennaugh, Danielle King, Laura Trott and Joanna Roswell all
winning the gold.
Chris Hoy becomes the first ever British athlete to win Six Olympics Gold Medals after overcoming Sir Steve Redgrave’s record of five medals.
“If I had to pick one moment, not an emotional one but a sentimental one, it’s definitely the tears of Chris Hoy. That is the defining moment of the Games,” he said.
"It's just great to win here in the UK, in front of this crowd, it's phenomenal. You cannot overstate what this means to us”.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Dave Brailsford said to us after Bradley's Wiggins' time trial that this was your chance, that you're never going to get this again, to enjoy it”.
“We enjoyed it and we gave it our all."
There was not much success for the English riders at the mountain biking and the BMX categories of the race.
Mariana Pajon secured the first and the only 2012 Olympics gold medal for Colombia after her tremendous performance during the women BMX event.
Sarah Walker of New Zealand (Silver medal) and Laura Smulders of Netherlands (Bronze) occupied the second and the third positions in the respective order.
Maris Strombergs Latvia, Sam Willoughby of Australia and Carlos Oquendo Colombia occupied the first, the second and the third positions in the men category of the race.
Jaroslav Kulhavy of Czech Republic stole the show at the Men’s cross-county race after winning a much needed gold medal for his side.
He restricted Nino Schurter of Switzerland and Marco Aurelio Fontaoa of Italy for the second and the third positions in the respective order.
Julie Bresset, Sabine Spitz of Germany and Georgia Gould of United States were the top three names at the Womens’ cross-country event.
