Team GreenEdge announces its final squad for Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico
World Tour debutant side, Team GreenEdge is targeting the Paris-Nice and the Tirreno-Adriatico as its main goals for its 2012 season.
The team will make its debut in Europe during the two races. Matt Goss and Simon Gerrans are the two key players for the side during the coming races.
Paris-Nice is scheduled from March 4-11 in France, while Tirreno-Adriatico from March 7-13 in Italy.
Team Green Edge started its 2012 campaign at the Australian race, Santos Tour Down Under.
Simon Gerrans helped the team with the overall victory while Baden Cooke and Aidis Kruopis were impressive during the Tour of Qatar and Oman.
Team Director Matt White told Cyclingnews that both the races hold high importance for the team.
He also cited that Simon Gerrans will be focussing on the stage wins instead of the overall victory at the race.
"Tenth to 15th place in Paris-Nice is not really that much of a result is it? So if we go on how many teams there are it means that half the teams don't achieve anything. We might as well achieve what we can and that's to try and get stage results," White stated.
While Gerrans is targeting the Paris-Nice, Cameron Meyer will try to bag some stage wins during the Tirreno-Adriatico 2012.
Matt noted, "It's a big step for him[Meyer] and we've got a very tough field there, we’ve got some stages for Gossy, we've got some stages for the other guys to try breaks – it's the perfect preparation for Milan-San Remo and the Flemish Classics".
Team GreenEdge squad for Paris-Nice: Simon Gerrans, Wes Sulzberger, Matthew Wilson, Aidis Kruopis, Michael Albasini, Jens Keukeleire, Leigh Howard and Simon Clarke.
Team GreenEdge squad for Tirreno-Adriatico: Cameron Meyer, Matt Goss, Stuart O'Grady, Sebastiaan Langeveld, Jens Mouris, Svein Tuft, Baden Cooke and Thomas Vaitkus.
Team GreenEdge currently holds the third spot at the UCI World Tour Team’s category with a total number of 107 points.
Simon Gerrans earned 106 while Robbie McEwen contributed one point to help the team.
Team RadioShack-Nissan Trek is leading the team’s classification (115 points) with Movistar Team at the second position (108 points).
