Team GreenEdge, Team FDJ-BigMat and Team Vacansoleil announced their final squad for Milan-San Remo
The 2012 edition of the Milan-San Remo is scheduled on March 17th. All the professional cycling teams are getting ready for the fourth World Tour race of the year.
UCI debutant side, Team GreenEdge has announced its final roster for the event and is optimistic to capitalise on the perfect start given by Simon Gerrans.
Gerrans secured the overall victory at the first World Tour race of the year, Santos Tour Down Under. He also helped the team with the first stage victory at the Tirreno-Adriatico 2012.
The Australian also succeeded during the Australian Road Race Championships earlier on the season.
Luke Durbridge of Team GreenEdge claimed the first position during the Australian Time Trial Championships earlier.
The final squad announced by the team includes, Matthew Goss, Svein Tuft, Stuart O’ Grady, Simon Gerrans, Baden Cooke, Matt Wilson, Sebastian Langeveld and Tomas Vaitkus as reported by the teams official website.
Goss succeeded during the previous version of the race and is looking ahead to make it his second consecutive victory in the event.
The 25-year-old has already opened his 2012 winning account at the Tirreno-Adriatico. He claimed the opening stage of the mark his first victory with the team.
Goss abandoned the Tirreno-Adriatico and is currently recovering from cold. Team’s Sport Director Matt White briefed that the cyclist has withdrawn from the race to ensure his best form ahead of the Italian race.
He noted, "Matt is going really well, and we don't want to run any risks before the big one-day races coming up".
"In pulling him out of the race now, after two really hard days, we'll still be able to count on him recovering fully for Milano-Sanremo and the other big Classics," Matt concluded.
Matt voiced, "I'm obviously not happy pulling out, but I think it's the best decision to play it safe leading up to Milano-Sanremo".
Team FDJ-BigMat has also announced its final squad, comprising Matthieu Ladagnous, Gabriel Rasch, Dominique Rollin, Arthur Vichot, William Bonnet, Steve Chainel, Arnaud Gérard, and Anthony Geslin.
The Italian side, Team Vacansoleil-DCM will be accompanied by Marco Marcato, Pim Ligthart, Bjorn Leukemans, Gustav Larsson, Johnny Hoogerland, Frederik Veuchelen, Kris Boeckmans and Bert-jan Lindeman for the coming race.
