Team GreenEdge is doing “a pretty good job”, Matthew Goss
Matthew Goss believes that the World Tour debutant side, Team GreenEdge has marked an impressive start to its 2012 season.
Simon Gerrans has been the most successful rider for the team. He has helped the team with two overall victories at the first and the fourth World Tour events of the year.
His first victory came during the Santos Tour Down Under where he overcame the in-form Alejandro Valverde and Tiago Machado to climb the top podium spot.
Michael Rogers and Rohan Dennis achieved the fourth and the fifth positions after the final general classifications at the Volta a Catalunya.
Gerrans’ recent victory came during the Italian race, Milan-San Remo. He finished the 298 kilometre race in a fastest time of 6 hours, 59 minutes and 24 seconds.
Fabian Cancellara and Vincenzo Nibali claimed the second and the third positions in the respective order.
Matthew Goss told Cyclingnews, “In the team respect we've done fairly well so far, we've won the national title, Down Under, pretty much everything in Australia".
"We've won the team time trial in Tirreno which is a huge thing being a brand new team and having never ridden together, never used this equipment and then to come out and win the way we did and have the jersey there”, he concluded.
The team also secured the opening stage of the Team’s Time trial at the Tirreno-Adriatico. It finished the race in a quickest time of 18 minutes and 41 seconds to claim the top spot at the 16.9 kilometre stage 1 of the race.
Team GreenEdge occupied the fourth overall spot with 111 points after the UCI World Tour team’s rankings as of March 12th, 2012.
The Australian team is now targeting the overall victory at the ongoing race, Volta a Catalunya.
Swiss rider Michael Albasini has marked a perfect start for the team during the opening stage.
He has opened his 2012 winning account after his spectacular performance during the opening stage of the race.
Albasini is now leading the overall classifications with Anthony Delaplace and Nicolas Edet at the second and the third positions in the respective order.
