Team India put in more effort against England than ICC World Cup 2011, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Ashwin-c2228 – Cricket News Update
India’s young off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, has said that Team India was unlucky during the recent tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011.
It was probably India’s most disastrous campaign ever, as the Men in Blue suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss in the One Day International (ODI) series after being crushed 0-4 by the Englishmen in the Test clash.
The players were ordinary in the field, as they failed to produce anything special throughout the competition. However, Ashwin clarified that there was not a lack of effort on behalf of his teammates who remained unlucky throughout the tour.
“To be frank, the confidence level was low. But I can say that the team fought to win every match even more than it had during the World Cup. Everybody competed fiercely," Ashwin said while referring to India's recent victory in the 10th edition
of the showpiece event.
Talking about the core issues behind the recent debacle, the offie shared that along with fitness problems with key players, the inhospitable weather in England and tough playing conditions were the biggest causes of India’s misery.
While most of the Indian cricketers have been citing excessive cricket as the prime reason of India’s defeat the hands of England, Ashwin dismissed the notion that the fatigue hampered the Men in Blue from producing anything notable during their visit to
England.
The Chennai-born spin bowler added, "I joined the Indian team only from the ODI series, so I`ve been away for about 45 days. I don`t think there is much point in discussing the fatigue factor. We`re all professional cricketers, so we can`t really complain.
Definitely a lot of cricket is being played, but it`s part and parcel of the game.”
Moreover, he expressed disappointment over the way the public reacted to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s defeat. He meanwhile, asked the cricketing circles to stop criticising and start motivating the players to do well in the future tournaments.
