Team Katusha and Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step squad announced for Dwars door Vlaanderen
Dwars door Vlaanderen is undoubtedly the most awaited race in March. The event is scheduled on March 21st, 2012 and the final teams have already been announced by the management.
Moreover, two of the World Tour sides, Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step and Team Katusha have announced its final squad for the Belgian race.
It started back in 1945 with Rik Van Steenbergen as its first winner while Nick Nuyens succeeded during the most recent edition f the race.
Team Katusha will look ahead at Denis Galimzyanov and Oscar Freire to help the team at the coming contest.
The Russian team has already started the 2012 season on a high note. It has claimed as many as four victories in the young season.
Oscar Freire helped the team with a stage 4 victory at the Tour Down Under and a stage 3 win at the Vuelta a Andalucia.
Daniel Moreno and Joaquim Rodriguez claimed a stage each during the Vuelta a Andalucia and the Tirreno-Adriatico 2012.
Wilfried Peeters of Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep is positive that the team will continue its peak performance at the coming event.
He noted, "It's an important race in which we will line up a squad that can bring results, the race is just a few days before Harelbeke and Gent-Wevelgem, so it will be also a very important test for us. In the final the route is very challenging.
“The climb on Nokereberg is located at only 6 kilometres from the arrival so it could be a crucial point in the race", he concluded.
Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep is currently holding the ninth overall spot with 33 points to his credit after the UCI World Tour standings as of March 2012. Team Katusha is currently holding the sixth position with 78 points.
Team Sky Pro cycling is leading the category with 207 UCI points to its credit while Team Movistar and Team RadioShack-Nissan is at the second and the third positions respectively.
Team Omega Pharma -Quickstep: Matthew Brammeier, Sylvain Chavanel, Gerald Ciolek, Iljo Keisse, Nikolas Maes, Gert Steegmans, Niki Terpstra and Guillaume Van Keirsbulck.
Team Katusha: Oscar Freire, Denis Galimzyanov, Marco Haller, Mikhail Ignatiev, Alexander Porsev, Rudiger Selig, Alexey Tsatevich and Maxime Vantomme.
