Team Katusha extended Joaquim Rodriguez’ contract till the end of 2013
Joaquim Rodriguez is enjoying a terrific year and has filled his bag with as many four victories in the young season.
The cyclist’s exceptional form has earned him a stay of one more year with the Russian side, Team Katusha.
Rodriguez joined Team Katusha in 2010 after marking his professional debut with Team Once-Eroski in 2001.
He stayed with Team Eroski until 2003 before accepting an offer from Team Saunier Duval-Prodir for 2004-05 seasons.
The Spaniard penned a four-year deal with Team Caisse d'Epargne-Illes Balears for a period of four years.
Rodriguez helped Team Katusha with his numerous splendid performances in the past seasons.
He finished 8th at the Tour de France 2010, 4th at the Giro d’ Italia 2011 and occupied the 4th and 19th overall spots during the last two versions of the Spanish Grand Tour.
The 32-year-old was delighted after the extension of his professional contract and briefed that the team has always supported him during the ups and downs in his professional career.
He mentioned on the team’s website, “I´m very happy and I´m really looking forward to continuing our common future: in this team I´m held in high esteem”.
“I proved my qualities as a leader so it was natural to continue this relation”.
“That gives me even more motivations in order to do something great on Sunday, for Liege-Bastogne-Liege: it´s definitely my favourite race, even more than World Championships or big stage races”.
“I feel very comfortable within Katusha and The Russian Global Cycling Project. The team gives me its support and the opportunities to realize my dreams as a rider”, he concluded.
Hans-Michael Holczer is Team Katusha’s General Manager and he is content to have the Spaniard on his side for one more year.
He has briefed that Joaquim is one of the finest cyclist across the world and forms and important part of Team Katusha.
Joaquim started his 2012 winning campaign by securing the first position at the La Fleche Wallonne.
He also claimed two stages at the Tour of the Basque Country and finished at the second overall position.
Rodriguez occupied the 6th overall spot at the Tirreno-Adriatico along with the stage 6 victory at the race.
