Team Leopard Trek hired Dirk Bockel for the 2012 season
Dirk Bockel has joined the Luxembourg Continental team, Leopard Trek, for the season ahead. The triathlete is overwhelmed on signing the side and is looking ahead for a positive season.
The 35-year-old finished fourth at the Hawaii Ironman 2011 and will definitely strengthen the side for the coming year.
Team’s Director, Adriano Baffi is hopeful that his addition in the team will help the side in the 2012 season.
Dirk was excited after signing the deal and stated that it was always his biggest dream to ride the triathlon with such a big team.
He was thrilled about the fact that the best bike manufacturer in the world, Trek, will be supporting him.
Bockel explained that the best part about the triathlon is to manage your own participation. This will give him more chances to concentrate on his work and ultimately produce better results.
The 35-year-old will be seen in action in Abu Dhabi on March 3rd followed by the Worlds in Kona, Hawaii.
He finished fourth at the race last year and is keen to claim the first podium position for the coming version, scheduled in October 2012.
RadioShack-Nissan Manager, Johan Bruyneel shared his thoughts about the signing, "The bridge between cycling and triathlon will be fascinating for all parties, For the two cycling teams that we direct, for Dirk as a triathlete and, last but not least, for
our partner Trek”.
He further added, “The common factor here is technology. Triathlon has become an important showroom for bike manufacturers. Trek has seen the number of its bikes used at the 2011 Worlds in Hawaii increase by 70 percent".
Bob Jungels will captain the side, he dominated the junior World time trial titles in 2010 and won the gold medal this year during the Games of the Small States of Europe for, both, time trial and road race. He also secured overall victories at the Amay
Haut and GP Francois Faber 2011.
Dirk’s inclusion in the Continental team will make him the fifth Luxembourg cyclist in the side.
Bob Jungels will lead the team in the 2012 cycling events and it will be interesting to see how Bockel helps the Luxembourg side in the 2012 season.
