Team Lotto Belisol “needs a guy like” Sep Vanmarcke for its Classics campaign
The 2012 season is only in its four month, yet Team Lotto Belisol has opened its transfer gates for the 2013 season.
Marc Sergeant of Team Lotto has shown interest in signing up the young Belgian professional, Sep Vanmarcke for the next season.
The Belgian team started off the new season in style with Andre Greipel helping the side with its initial wins of the year.
The German sprinter succeeded during the 1st, 3rd and the 6th stages of the UCI opening event, Santos Tour Down Under.
Greipel also claimed the 1st and the 4th stages of the Tour of Oman while Gianni Meersman occupied a stage each at the Volta ao Algarve and the Paris-Nice 2012.
Jurgen Van Den Broeck claimed the third overall spot at the Volta a Catalunya after a splendid performance at the event.
The side currently holds the 16th overall spot after the UCI World Tour teams ranking as of April 2012.
It has earned a total number of 101 UCI points and has realised that it’s classics department needs to be strengthened.
Marc Sergeant told Cyclingnews during an interview, "He's free. We'd be interested in him for next year. I don't know about the money though”.
“We'd have to see what he wants first but I think Garmin want to keep him as well".
“He has had some troubles with his wrist but he says that it's getting better with each day. I hope has no pain tomorrow because then he can do a great race”.
“We also have Marcel Sieberg who can go on for a long time but I think they need to anticipate and already be in a group with a car behind him", he concluded.
Vanmarcke started his professional crusade with Team Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator in 2010 and spent a period of two years with the side.
He accepted an offer from Team Garmin- Cervelo in 2011 and is continuing his second consecutive season with the side.
Sep opened his 2012 winning account at the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and occupied the 5th overall position at the E3 Harelbeke 2012.
The 23-year-old was last seen in action at the Paris-Roubaix 2012.
He started off well but could not hold onto the tiring 257.5 kilometre race and finished almost 15 minutes behind the race leader Tom Boonen.
Only time will tell, if the Belgian team succeeds in hiring Vanmarcke in its 2013 squad.
