Team Lotus’ boss Tony Fernandes will not get what he wants from Proton – Formula 1 news
Group Lotus’ Proton recently insisted that it is not afraid of anything and they are not going to back out now. They claim that they can solve the Lotus naming problem outside of the court as well only if Tony Fernandes does not make any sort of unfair financial
demand.
Tony Fernandes is the team boss of Team Lotus and he stated that he has been offered an amount of around $10 million from Proton and Group Lotus to settle this affair out of the court. It seems that these recent statements are revealing this matter at its
full and at first, it seemed that Group Lotus was quite confident as they thought that the case was in their own hands but now, Tony Fernandes and Team Lotus seem to have the upper hand.
Tony claims that around 250 jobs were at a risk if this matter was not resolved but Proton claims that they are still trying to come up with a deal in order to get rid of this matter once and for all.
This whole case is getting pretty interesting but confusing at the same time as well. It is becoming more like a ‘game’ now and according to Proton’s recent statement, Tony Fernandes is demanding around £22 million ($35 million) and £37million ($60 million)
to settle this matter.
“For all intent and purposes, [Lotus] cannot now demand for us to compensate them for a problem which they got themselves into,” said a statement from Proton, adding if ‘reasonable and justified proposals’ were made, both of the companies could decide this
matter outside of court as well.
This statement also clarified the fact that Fernandes wants the fee to include the sale of the name of his Team Lotus along with some other factors as well which includes the development of a new brand.
It is believed that both of these companies might have to face the court once again over a month’s time and in the coming days, a statement from Tony Fernandes might clear this matter for the time being.
