Team Lotus driver, Jarno Trulli, crashes his car on the final day of testing at Barcelona
Jarno Trulli crashed out of the final day of testing in Barcelona early. His car suffered an undisclosed problem, which caused him to crash. However, the Lotus driver was safe and came out of his car in one piece soon after hitting the wall.
The crash left a lot of oil on the track but no reason was given by Lotus as to what was the main reason behind the car losing control. The Italian driver stated, “It's obviously disappointing to have the test cut short like this, but these things happen
in motor racing. We started the day well and until the accident happened I had picked up where I left off yesterday.”
The chief technical officer of Lotus, Mike Gascoyne, stated that the driver could have done nothing to avoid the accident as it was a car failure. However, he didn’t specify the details.
Trulli was happy with the experience gained by his team over the four-day testing and said that his team had achieved what they were looking for. He further added that his car had the pace to fight amongst the mid-field runners and he was looking forward
to an exciting season ahead.
Gasycone was also positive about the chances of his team and stated that all members of the team were pleased with the pace and reliability of the T128. Although Lotus did have some technical issues during the crash, Gasycone was confident that the team
will address all issues and there will be no concerns during the 2011 season.
Apart from Lotus, most of the teams taking part in the testing have been hampered by reliability concerns. However, the teams are trying different setups during testing, which have caused some problems.
Lotus was one of the three debutant teams in the 2010 season. The Malaysian team was best amongst all the newcomers and they aimed to improve further in the upcoming season. Although Lotus didn’t score any points in the last season, they increased their
cars reliability and their own consistency.
The team has switched to Renault engines from Cosworth and they will be eying a top eight finish in the upcoming season.
