Team Lotus driver Heikki Kovalainen says has ‘no issues’ with Lewis Hamilton – Formula 1 news
Team Lotus driver Heikki Kovalainen will not be attending the drivers’ meeting that has been scheduled at Suzuka, Japan ahead of the 2011 Japanese Grand stating that he has ‘no issues’ with McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton.
The Brit who was criticised for his dangerous and risky driving style for most part of this season has been called for a ‘special meeting’ before the International Automobile Federation (FIA) Director, Charlie Whiting.
The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the accidents that were caused on various tracks during the course of this season due to Hamilton’s reckless driving. This meeting has been called upon by all the Formula 1 teams in order to reach a common consensus
and also let Hamilton know about their discontentment with his driving style which has cost them heavily during the ongoing season.
Recently, at the Singapore Grand Prix at Marina Bay Street Circuit, Hamilton was given a drive-through penalty as a result of his collision with the Brazilian driver Felipe Massa of Ferrari.
Massa criticised Hamilton of spoiling his race and said, “Again he cannot use his mind. What he did could have caused a big accident. He is paying for it. I was in the middle so I got a puncture. I was not lucky with my strategy and again something happened
with a guy that has done it so many times this year. I will tell him, he doesn’t listen.”
Hamilton believes that in order to be a successful Formula 1 driver you have got to take risks.
At Monaco, his teammate Jenson Button had to suffer when he hit him during the race.
Hamilton said, “In Monaco for example, I think okay. You just step back a little bit, but not completely change my approach because this is my life and this is how I do it.”
At this point, his former McLaren teammate, Kovalainen however has said that he will not be attending this meeting as he has no issues with the 26-year-old Brit’s aggressive driving style.
Let’s see what the other drivers come up with in the meeting scheduled to take place this week.
