Team Lotus driver Heikki Kovalainen says he is happy about his position in the team – Formula 1 news
Team Lotus driver Heikki Kovalainen has said that he is happy with his current position in the team.
Kovalainen also mentioned that he is delighted with the way he has adjusted into the team after his switch from the McLaren team in 2010.
The team driver talked to the media and added that now he is well experienced with the different aspects of the Formula 1 sport and that he is sure he can do better in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Lotus had a poor first half of the season as both of their drivers, which included Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli, were unable to perform well on the grid among the strong teams of Formula 1.
Despite having unsatisfactory results in the first half of the season, Lotus driver Kovalainen said that his team did a good job in the season. The Finn driver further added that Lotus made improvements in terms of performance as compared to the 2010 season.
However, he said the team’s car is still unable to compete with the current competitors of the ongoing season.
Talking to media, Kovalainen said, “In fact now, the way I feel, with a good car I could do a very good job. My experience is now high, I have made mistakes in the past and I haven't always necessarily done the right things but I have learned from the past
and all the problems, and I think I have become a very solid and good, quick driver.”
He went on to mention, “I would say that our expectations were too high. Though we have closed the gap compared to last year, where we were five seconds behind, now we are 2.5-3s behind, so we have taken a lot of steps forward.”
In the recently held British Grand Prix, both of the drivers retired from the race due to some technical issues in their T128 cars.
After a disappointing Silverstone race weekend, Team Lotus are expecting for better results from their drivers in the upcoming German Grand Prix. The action from Nurburgring begins Friday, July 22, 2011.
