Team Lotus driver Jarno Trulli signs contract extension until 2012 – Formula 1 news
Jarno Trulli will stay with Team Lotus for the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
Team Lotus confirmed their contract extension with Trulli soon after the 2011 Italian Grand Prix which ended this Sunday, September 11 at Monza.
On this occasion, Trulli said, “I am very pleased that we have been able to confirm today that my contract with Team Lotus has been extended into 2012. The challenge I first accepted when I joined the team is becoming more exciting every day, and I am very
proud that I can keep helping the team take steps forward for at least another year.”
This decision from Team Lotus came after watching Trulli in action at Monza where he outperformed his fellow teammate Heikki Kovalainen. Therefore, he is now seen by Lotus as a great resource that they would like to keep on-board for at least another year.
The decision has also been taken due to the team’s desire to establish themselves as a midfield team of the sport.
Jarno Trulli, the 37-year-old Italian driver, joined Team Lotus from Toyota and has only one race victory to his credit so far when he won the 2004 Monaco Grand Prix. He joined Team Lotus when the latter became part of Formula 1 in 2010, and ever since then
Trulli has been contributing to the success of the team.
It was therefore very crucial for the Lotus team to take Trulli on their side in order to assure a continued growth path for the team.
Team Lotus’ team principal Tony Fernandes is reported to have said, “He has shown in qualifying in Monza just how much pace he has and how he can wring every last drop of performance out of his car and since day one with us he has brought a level of professionalism,
insight and raw speed to our team that has helped accelerate our development on and off track.”
