Team Lotus happy to beat Renault in 2011 Singapore Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Team Lotus principal Tony Fernandes has said that they are quite happy to beat Renault’s Vitaly Petrov in the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix recently.
Fernandes added that the Singapore Grand Prix was a good day for them, as they successfully caught Formula 1 Renault team driver Petrov during the race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Team Lotus driver Heikki Kovalainen started his race from the 19th position on the grid and after struggling with his T128 car, he ended up ahead of Petrov, who came at the 17th place on the final race
classifications.
The team is pleased to beat Renault at the Marina Bay Circuit during the raceday. The Hingham-based outfit principal further stated that although his team could not finish the Singapore race in points, but beating the Renault team at the Marina Bay street
circuit was a great achievement for them in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Fernandes commented, “It was an unbelievable feeling, unbelievable! Because it was on pace, and Heikki drove a blinder, and towards the end of the race we were keeping pace with many of the midfield teams. Without KERS and with the minimal kind of development
we had - really focusing on next year's car - I'm really, really pleased.”
He went on to mention, “I'd say that the remaining circuits will be more or less the same. We should be able to hopefully match this, we'll know the tracks a bit better, and I'd say it's a good reflection of where we'll be.”
Kovalainen’s teammate Jarno Trulli was not able to stay on the circuit in Singapore until the end of the race. He retired from the Grand Prix after completing 47 laps due to a gearbox issue.
Team Lotus are still at the same position, where they were at the start of the 2011 Formula 1 season. Both of the drivers are moving towards the end of the championship without scoring any points.
The 15th round of the ongoing season will take place on October 09, 2011 at the Suzuka circuit.
Let’s see how Team Lotus perform in the Japanese Grand Prix following their Singapore race weekend results.
