Team Lotus hopes to do good in Korea
The Formula One caravan is ready to move towards its next destination, the South Korean track. The seventeenth race of the 2010 season would be held this Sunday at the newly built circuit of Yeongam.
As 24 drivers and 12 teams prepared for this exciting and thrilling race of the season, the drivers and the managers of Lotus talked to the press telling about their fears as well as aspirations for the upcoming race.
The team has had a tough debut season with Formula One this year, as they faced a variety of problems ranging from financial to legal problems and much more.
Heikki Kovalainen, while talking to the press last week, told that the team stopped working on this year’s car by the middle of the season. Since its last updates in Silverstone they have diverted all concentration on their next year’s car.
Now as the driver prepares for the upcoming round he told, “I’m looking forward to Korea. It’s new for all of us, and while I’ve had a bit of a look at the layout, the first couple of laps will be all about finding the right lines, and then we will focus
on setups. To be honest, it won’t take long to get to grips with the track and I think the car will be ok there.”
The circuit is to hold its first race next week after facing a lot of uncertainties for not being able to complete its construction work at right time, however, finally the track was ready only two weeks prior to the race day and is now ready to embrace
the caravan of cars next week.
The other team driver Jarno Trulli talked to the press telling that he is now entering the last final races of the season with high spirits and a lot of expectations.
He talked about the round in Japan saying that the entire team returned happy from there after giving a good performance. “The whole team performed really well over the weekend, and we took a big step towards the end goal of tenth, so everyone left happy.
Korea looks pretty good - some drivers use simulators or even games to take a look at the lines, but I usually find my way around a new venue by running a few laps of the track on the Thursday,” the driver told.
Moreover, the team principal Tony Fernandes also proclaimed his expectations for the race saying that he is looking forward for another exciting episode of the season just like they had a good one in Japan as well. He continued telling that the entire team
worked very hard to get the best put of what they had and somehow the team was able to do the right thing at the right time. He believes that it was due to the sheer brilliance of the drivers that kept themselves from having any problems on the track and also
the great job done by the people on the pit, which together made the 12th and 13th place finish possible for the drivers.
Lastly the Lotus chief technical officer, Mike Gascoyne also said that the team is heading for the next race with a lot of optimism. The last race in Japan helped in raising their morale, where they had the best finish of the season.
He was also happy to add that the next year’s car is being designed now, and they are sure to come up with a far more competitive car, which would enhance their recognition and reputation in the racing world.
However, he concluded telling that a new track is always a challenge and now they are looking forward for one along with Formula One teams. Yet they hope to do as good as they can as only very few races are least.
