Team Lotus negotiating a contract extension with Jarno Trulli – Formula 1 news
According to Tony Fernandes, the team principal of Team Lotus, the team is currently discussing a possible contract extension with Jarno Trulli.
Trulli is one of the most senior drivers of the sport but still he has not been able to help the team improve its car much in 2011 in terms of pace as a result of which they are pretty much at the same position as they were back in 2010.
“I am delighted to confirm that we are in the process of negotiating an extension to his contract with us and we are all looking forward to unveiling the details of that very soon. He is a key member of our team and I hope that we can give him a car as soon
as possible that allows him to utilise his considerable talent to the full,” said Fernandes.
The team has been finishing ahead of both Hispania Racing Team and Virgin Racing Team once again in 2011 and they are still struggling to cope up with the mid-running teams of the sport.
It is quite disappointing for the team though as they were hoping of becoming a mid-running team this year but unfortunately, that is not likely to happen anytime soon. However, they are trying their best to change things up a little bit.
“I want to take this chance to thank Jarno for helping make Karun's opportunity this weekend possible. He has been extremely accommodating in stepping to the side for this race and our commitment to him is unwavering,” said the team principal.
Team Lotus recently confirmed that Karun Chandhok will be racing for them at the German Grand Prix as a replacement for Jarno Trulli before adding that this will not affect the team’s deal with the Italian driver in any way.
Chandhok is the test driver of Team Lotus and this is his second season in the sport. He has been testing for the team during most of the race weekends’ Friday Practice sessions but him racing for the team at a race was a big surprise indeed.
