Team Lotus owner Tony Fernandes praises engine suppliers Renault – Formula 1 news
Team Lotus owner Tony Fernandes has recently praised his team’s engine suppliers Renault who are also supplying engines for teams like Red Bull Racing and Lotus Renault GP.
Fernandes also revealed that his team is currently in the middle of a future deal with the engine suppliers as well and it is going to be very important for them.
“It's a big significance, because it gives us stability. Next year will be the first year we have the same engines for two seasons, the same gearbox, and it's going to aid development tremendously because we've got the same team, virtually, and the same
components,” he told Espnf1.com
The team is already expected to stick with Renault engines until the end of the 2013 Formula 1 season after which management of Formula 1 is going to introduce engine regulation changes to the sport.
“We have (committed for the new regulations). No, we are, we just don't know what the deal is going to be, but we have already made an agreement with Renault that we will be looking at 2014 and 2015,” he added.
Other than that, the team revealed that they are going to receive gearboxes and Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems from Red Bull as a part of their new deal as well.
Team Lotus started working with Renault in 2011 and it seems that their performance is improving which clearly proves that Lotus and Renault combination might prove to be beneficial for both of the companies.
The team is yet to secure its first points after its return to the sport but by the looks of it, that might not be possible this year as their performance is not up to the mark yet and teams like Force India, Sauber, and Toro Rosso are doing a great job.
With Mercedes GP and the top running teams securing the top 10 places at almost all of the races, it seems that Lotus will have to improve their performance and aim for a good car for 2012.
