Team Lotus reveals their challenger for 2011 season
The controversial Team Lotus has revealed their car for 2011 season. It will be called T128 and has undergone massive changes from its ancestor, the T127.
Initially, the cars name was decided TL11 but it changed following the cold war between the Lotus teams. As Fernandes said “There has been so much has focus off-track it's a thrill to be able to get back to talking about racing”.
Lotus has finally managed to put their focus on the track and they have come out with a car featuring Renault V8 engine and Red Bull transmission technology.
The old Lotus used a Cosworth engine, as admitted by team officials that last year’s car was just to get represented on the grid and no real work was done to make it competitive.
The Lotus team will use the name Lotus Renault GP after winning its right of using Lotus name on 25th of January, at least for now.
As official’s said that the team started to work with T128 in the middle of the last season to come up with a competitor, and rightly so, this car will put up a fight in the midfield and also it will be a challenge for champion teams.
The car has not hit the road yet only images were released by Team Lotus Notes online magazine. T128 will make its official debut on Wednesday when it joins Valencia testing in Spain on the second day.
The car, as seen from images, looks like it has a more complicated front wing design, sharply sculpted side-pods, and a higher nose, which seems to show Lotus are toying with the rules of ‘no blade design’.
However, the team’s chief is very confident about the car and said that everything expected from the car is achieved. He also said that “I think that basically this car looks like a front running car in every area. We said very clearly that we want to start
challenging the established teams and I think that's very achievable".
Fernandes said that “The launch of the T128 is a big step forward for Team Lotus and I want to thank the whole team for the amount of hard work that has already gone into T128”. He also gave his gratitude to Renault and Red Bull for helping to make the car.
